What is Second Like?

a short video introduction

Second Presbyterian Church was established in December 1844 in downtown Memphis.

After several moves, Second moved to its current location at Poplar and Goodlett in 1949. Once the edge of the city, this location is now in the heart of Memphis.

In 1989, our congregation voted to join the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC). We are a church marked by Reformed theology, and committed to faithful practice that is firmly based in Scripture.

We believe that the worship of God is our highest calling as human beings. Therefore, our worship is an exciting and dynamic public dialogue with our Creator, who desires a relationship with us. He speaks to us, and we respond to Him throughout the service.

At Second, The Lord’s Day is framed with morning and evening worship services. On Sunday morning we gather in the Sanctuary at 8:15 and 11:00 to worship God. On Sunday evening we gather at 6:00 p.m. to worship once more before being sent out to love and serve our neighbor.

Although the population of the metropolitan area of Memphis is over a million people, Memphis still maintains a small-town feel.

At the same time Memphis is known internationally for being the headquarters of companies such as FedEx, AutoZone, and International Paper.

Memphians have many choices when it comes to entertainment, including events at venues such as the FedEx Forum, The Orpheum Theater, and the Levitt Shell.

They can also take advantage of the third-ranked zoo in the country, Memphis Grizzlies games, the Brooks Museum, some of the best BBQ in the country, music on Beale Street, the Civil Rights Museum, and so much more.
